The Department of Planning and Environment is currently seeking to **Assistant Project Officer, Cultural Scientist **to join our Environment & Heritage Group.

The role provides technical, scientific and analytical support for the delivery of a range of discrete cultural science research projects for internal DPE clients and external stakeholders. You’ll address issues and support Aboriginal community autonomy and self-determination in land and water management (Caring for Country) and planning.

**About You**

The role will be co-ordinating and collating Cultural information to support Aboriginal values in the Fire planning process for NSW, contribute to establishing collaborative networks across the NSW Far South Coast communities. Undertaking field work with both cultural and western worlds, (including Aboriginal Ranger teams) creating foundational information to support Cultural knowledge being included into fire risk planning.

We are looking for and enthusiastic person who is willing to assist in meetings, training programs, planning and organisation, including communications (ie photography). Supporting data preparation and spatial GIS modelling activities and Cultural teachings will be provided through Traditional Ecological Knowledge by staff members.

To be successful in this role you will have;
- Demonstrated understanding about contributing to cultural research and community-based projects
- Experience working with cultural science - related collaborators
- Demonstrated understanding working with Aboriginal people, government organisations and communities with the ability to communicate across cultures.
- Current NSW Driver’s license
- Willingness to travel (including regional and city-based travel), including willingness to stay overnight in non-established camps in remote areas
