**About the role**:
As the manager of our Construction team you will be responsible for
- provide strong educational leadership to the department through mentoring, management and leading innovative and strategic practices to ensure the delivery of positive educational outcomes for students.
- Lead and manage the operational and strategic development of programs within the department.
- Manage overall department performance and ensure revenue targets are met as set by the Director VET.
- Develop and maintain strong links with industry to ensure curriculum meets industry needs.

**Duties**:
**Leadership**
- Coordinate the participation of staff in collaboration with Curriculum Unit for work relating to the curriculum design, development and resources in line with industry and strategic needs in the provision of quality VET education and training.
- Provide strong leadership, skills and support to the Program Leaders, Leading Teachers and Teachers within
the department.

**Financials**
- Review information and data to make sound business decisions that are financially justifiable, responsible and in accordance with Melbourne Polytechnic’s policies and procedures.
- Develop and manage department budgets in conjunction with the Director VET and Finance department to meet Melbourne Polytechnic’s financial requirements.
- Monitor and analyse the monthly expenditure against the forecasted budget in conjunction with the
Director VET.

**People Management**
- Develop a professional development plan in conjunction with the Program Leaders to ensure the skills of
staff are current and adequately address any skills gaps.
- Develop Individual Development Plans (IDP) with direct reports to monitor KPIs and performance and
identify any potential development opportunities for the year.
- Manage staff performance of the Program Leaders, Leading Teachers, Teachers, Storespersons and
Technicians within the department and adequately address any performance issues in accordance with
Melbourne Polytechnic’s policies and procedures.

**Student Management and Experience**
- Review and monitor student enrolments and retention issues and report on these to the Director VET.
- Monitor and manage student experience across the department and follow-up any outstanding student’s
complaints.
- Work with the Student Engagement and International Partnership area to show improvements to student
outcomes.
- Identify, develop and promote pathways, articulation and credit transfer opportunities that enhance
students’ opportunities and outcomes.

**Community Engagement**
- Identify appropriate and relevant business opportunities.
- Ensure that the Melbourne Polytechnic develops and grows according to client needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Melbourne Polytechnic key stakeholders

**Quality and Compliance**
- Ensure systems and processes are adhered to and consistent across the department in all day to day
matters.
- In conjunction with Quality Assurance, coordinate and/or participate in internal and external audits and in the development of management action plans to ensure that all Quality Assurance procedures are followed within the department.

**Skills and experience required**:
**Mandatory**:

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications preferably to post graduate level (AQF8 Level) together with extensive
experience in VET and relevant industry experience (VET).
- A relevant qualification in Education and a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Extensive knowledge of current issues, regulatory requirements and/or changes in vocational education and training.
