Take a leading role in undertaking bushland and water catchment operational activities to make a difference in the Bushland Shire

**About us**

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.

**About the role**

In your new role you will provide direction and leadership in delivering environmental infrastructure projects, including the construction and maintenance of bush walking, mountain bike and management tracks, bushland infrastructure and catchment remediation devices.

You will take a lead role in supporting the organisation in regard to its responsibilities for weed and feral animal management under the Biosecurity act. The position services both internal and external customers and provides support to the Environment Operations Manager.

The main purpose of the role is to;
- Supervise the delivery of environmental infrastructure activities, including capital, upgrade, repair and maintenance
- Review and monitor the processes and procedures of the Branch to ensure best practice and quality project outcomes
- Lead Council's responsibilities under the Biosecurity Act
- Supervise staff in the Environmental Operations Team and providing effective customer service

**About you**

To succeed in this role you will need extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of bush walking and mountain bike track construction and maintenance, management trail upgrades, biosecurity control and contract management.

You will need to have good interpersonal, time management and organisational skills as well as the ability to work with autonomy. This position requires strong problem solving and decision-making skills within the context of managing consultants, contractors and communicating with residents.

You will require strong computer skills within the office environment as well as a highly developed technical skills and an ability to work in the bushland field environment.
