THE ROLE

The Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Language and Literature (MCCALL) is seeking to appoint a highly qualified teaching-intensive academic as Lecturer (Level B) in Writing: academic, digital, and creative writing.

This new continuing role is in Macquarie University’s Teaching & Leadership Job Family. The Macquarie University Academic Job Family Framework recognises and rewards the breadth of academic work. The Teaching & Leadership Academic is a specialist role for Academic staff who dedicate their workload contribution to Teaching and Teaching Leadership, (70%) and Service (30%).

The successful applicant will be expected to develop, administer, teach, and review various writing curricula at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; contribute to a culture of scholarship; engage with relevant stakeholders in the community; and make contributions to the administration and relevant outreach activities of the Department, Faculty and University.

They will have a strong track record of leadership in teaching, including innovative curriculum and assessment development, and the management of academic integrity issues; teaching excellence in various forms of writing; and effective strategies of engagement, retention, and success for socio-economically and culturally diverse groups of students.

About Us

The Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Language, and Literature (MCCALL) is one of the largest and most diverse departments at Macquarie University. This position in Writing is located within the Discipline of Literature, which is ranked seventh in Australia (2023 QS rankings).

To Apply- PhD in a relevant field of writing and literature- Demonstrated experience in teaching genres of creative writing: e.g. poetry, literary fiction, historical fiction, popular fiction, non-fiction, digital writing, professional writing- Demonstrated experience in teaching analytical methods of reading (e.g. inspectional, analytical, syntopical, close reading), grammar, and composition- Demonstrated innovation in pedagogy, assessment, and teaching practice in face-to-face, online and hyflex learning with positive outcomes among socio-economically, culturally and linguistically diverse students- Demonstrated ability to engage productively with AI and LLMs in writing, while maintaining standards of academic integrity- Experience in setting up and convening units in diverse formats, delivering high-quality learning and teaching and consistent student experience across different formats and teachers, and managing and supporting staffing pools in large teaching units- Demonstrated experience in academic leadership relating to the development and design of writing units using innovative approaches, and management of curriculum at program level, with evidence of positive outcomes- Demonstrated experience contributing to the administration and relevant outreach activities of the institution
