The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system. The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 465 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

**Managing Principal Solicitor (Fixed Term - 3 Years)**

The Office of Public Prosecutions has a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Managing Principal Solicitor to join our team.

The Policy and Specialised Legal Division (PASL) plays a key role in supporting the DPP, OPP Executive and the broader legal practice. It engages in specialised legal work such as advice to external agencies, collaborates with the legal practice on law reform consultations and other projects and supports solicitors working on prosecution files when issues like potential suppression order breaches arise.

The Managing Principal Solicitor will work closely and collaboratively with the Manager & Deputy Manager, PASL in performance improvement across the Division and ensuring the Office continues to operate to common standards and processes.

**About the Role**:

- Proactively monitor and review the quality and standard of work performed by staff within the team, including user compliance with the OPP's practice and document management systems, and provide regular feedback and advice to the Manager, PASL on team performance.
- Provide high-level professional and technical leadership and advice within the work group.
- Extensive experience in legal practice with a demonstrated focus or interest in criminal law and the law of evidence.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate and manage staff, to foster continuous learning and development and aid in their professional development.
- Ability to provide high-level written or verbal advice on the most complex legal and policy issues.
