Managing Principal Lawyer - Prosecutions

About Us:
The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is an independent statutory authority managing Victoria's fisheries resources. We work with stakeholders to deliver sustainable fishing, clear resource access, and increased value. With over 180 staff across 25 sites, we are committed to responsible fisheries management.

Position Overview:
We seek a Managing Principal Lawyer to provide expert legal support to the Education & Enforcement Division, focusing on achieving strategic enforcement outcomes. Responsibilities include advising investigators, reviewing evidence, managing prosecutions, and appearing in court.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support to the Education & Enforcement Division.
  • Review evidence and legal documentation.
  • Manage prosecutions, including negotiation.
  • Appear in court proceedings.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders.

      Qualifications and Experience:

      • Admitted as an Australian Lawyer.
      • 5+ years post-qualification experience.
      • Front-line prosecutor experience.
      • Multi-disciplinary team experience.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and file management.

        Desired Experience:

        • In-depth knowledge of the Victorian justice system.
        • Significant Court advocate experience.
        • Prosecution, investigation, or enforcement environment experience.
