About the Team
The Media team is a Group within the Department that is responsible for managing relationships with journalists and media outlets, telling stories and communicating important information across Transport and Planning via media and digital channels.
About the Opportunity
The Media Adviser position is a crucial and exciting role within the Media team. This role involves working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, and requires an ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the team to tell stories and manage media issues.
The role involves working closely with journalists and internal and external stakeholders to deliver engaging content on a range of operational and policy issues as well as communicating important network updates to get Victorians where they need to go.
To be considered for this role you will need to have experience in media issues management and/or significant journalism experience and demonstrate strong writing, story-telling, relationship building and critical thinking skills.
The role demands an ability to clearly and accurately convey complex information in simple language to tight deadlines and keep calm under pressure.
About You
- Demonstrated experience in media issues management, including the preparation of communications materials to respond to media enquiries
- Proven ability to proactively identify opportunities to deliver communications to promote an organisation's objectives and achievements through a broad range of channels
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Demonstrated flair and creativity, with the ability to think beyond traditional communication strategies
- Good time management skills
- Proven ability to work as part of a team, proactively providing support to other team members as needed as well as an ability to operate independently where required
