**Overview**

**Aboriginal Children’s Health and Development (Trainee) (OPS3) **works to improve the health and development outcomes for Aboriginal children in early childhood by providing culturally appropriate health and development care within the Child Health and Development (CHAD) team.

The Aboriginal Children’s Health and Development (ACHAD) Trainee will work as part of the community-based Child Health and Development team that includes Allied Health Practitioners with links to Nurses and Medical staff. The trainee contributes to the delivery of early childhood therapy, activities and relevant primary health care to Aboriginal children and their families to:

- Leading engagement with and community to improve access for Aboriginal children and families to health services.
- Assisting families to obtain referral services and linking families to community supports where appropriate.
- Support implementation culturally safe and responsive services and work practices.
- Support Aboriginal children their social and emotional wellbeing.
- Contribute to evidence-based practice to meet the culturally related needs of Aboriginal children and their families.

The ACHAD Trainee, with support and guidance, will provide screening opportunities and clinical care for Aboriginal children and their families in CHAD clinics, Aboriginal Health Clinics, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and community settings, including home visiting and education settings.

**Aboriginal Children’s Health and Development (Practitioner) (OPS4) **works to improve the health and development outcomes for Aboriginal children in early childhood by providing culturally appropriate health and development care within the Child Health and Development (CHAD) team.

The Aboriginal Children’s Health and Development (ACHAD) Practitioner will work as part of the Child Health and Development care team that includes Allied Health Practitioners, Nurses and Medical staff in the delivery of early childhood therapy, activities and relevant primary health care to Aboriginal children and their families contributing to:

- leading engagement with Aboriginal children, families and community to improve access to health services
- assisting families to obtain referral services and linking families to community supports where appropriate;
- implementation of high quality and culturally safe services and work practices; their social and emotional wellbeing;
- contributing to evidence-based practice to meet the culturally related needs of Aboriginal children and their families;
- participation in the development of policies, procedures and practice standards for the organisation;
- the development, implementation and evaluation of health education programs.

The ACHAD Practitioner will be required to provide screening opportunities and clinical care for Aboriginal children and their families in CHAD clinics, Aboriginal Health Clinics, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and community settings, including home visiting and education settings.
