Family and Child Connect is a Queensland Government funded initiative aimed at ensuring vulnerable families and children have access to high-quality services at the right time to help them to maintain the family unit. Family and Child Connect is a community based intake and referral service, established across Queensland to support families who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system and to help families to care for and protect their children at home.

**About the role**

As our Intake Worker you will act as a first point of contact for families accessing our service. You will provide timely and effective contact, advice and referral services with the aim of increasing the safety of children and reducing the risk of children entering out of home care.

**Duties**
- Answer phone lines for both FaCC services and provide information, referral and advocacy to support clients to access appropriate resources and services, both within The Benevolent Society and with external agencies and service providers
- Provide information to external services of appropriate supports in the community to assist families
- Complete all downloads of referrals for both FaCC services received through the data system.
- Assess and plan for safety, particularly where there is a risk of self-harm, family violence, or child protection concerns
- Explore options with clients to support them to make informed choices to address their immediate needs

**Skills and Experience**

As an experienced Social Worker, Psychologist, Case Worker or Case Manager you will have a relevant tertiary degree and:

- Degree qualified in social work, early childhood, psychology or similar
- At least 2 years experience working with children and/or families in a child protection focused role, including experience undertaking comprehensive assessments
- Excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development
- Ability to quickly and effectively evaluate the needs of a client and identify potential referrals that may meet their needs
- Understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities
- Ability to work flexible hours as evening may be required
- Current driver’s license
