Position Summary

As a Statistical/Project Team Leader, you will typically be responsible for the management and technical

supervision of analytical projects relevant to the Unit’s work program.

Under general direction you will:

- Lead the management and analysis of data including the preparation of reports, technical papers, and

presentations for various audiences.
- Provide strategic advice and develop options on professional, technical, and management matters.
- Work collaboratively with the Unit Head and other officers within the Institute to provide leadership,

direction, and performance management of staff, and the effective management of allocated resources.
- Manage complex projects and activities and provide administrative and professional support.
- Liaise and negotiate with other areas of the AIHW, other Commonwealth government agencies, State

and Local authorities, and business or community organisations, and represent the AIHW at meetings

as appropriate to the responsibilities above.

There may be a number of highly technical roles filled using this recruitment process. These roles may be

involved with the development and implementation of data linkage strategies and protocols, testing of

methodologies, analysis, and interpretation of complex statistical information, and undertaking machine

learning projects-based work. These roles would suit applicants who have a keen interest in leading specialist

teams and have knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

- Modern data science
- Statistics and data methodologies including manipulating and interrogating data sets using a range

of software such as SAS, R, Python and SQL
- Machine learning, or
- Data linkage

Selection Criteria

1. Well-developed leadership and people management skills, including the ability to provide direction,

support, and effective performance management of staff.

2. Highly developed analytical and conceptual thinking, including the ability to undertake complex

planning, research, and analysis and manage complex projects.

3. The ability to cultivate and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with a range

of internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery of outcomes.

4. Highly developed communication skills including the ability to negotiate and communicate with

influence to achieve an outcome.
