Clipboard is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our growing team in Sydney.

Position Overview

Clipboard is seeking a proactive and adaptable Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team in Sydney. As we grow, this role will be crucial in driving our team’s development, productivity, and cohesion while ensuring our engineering practices support Clipboard’s mission to transform extracurricular program management.

Reporting to the CEO and collaborating closely with our Tech Lead, you’ll play a key role in aligning our engineering efforts with strategic goals. The Engineering Manager will focus primarily on people management, team culture, and operational effectiveness, while also contributing to code in a limited capacity to stay close to the technology. This position is perfect for a skilled manager who excels at balancing team well-being and performance in a fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities
- **Team development** - Coach and mentor engineers, facilitating career growth through regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and actionable feedback.
- ** Team planning & delivery** - Manage team objectives and timelines, ensuring productivity and alignment with business goals. Support project planning, resource allocation, and headcount planning.
- ** Cross-functional alignment** - Collaborate with the Tech Lead to align on technical strategy, system priorities, and project delivery. Partner with Product, Customer Success, and Sales to integrate engineering goals with broader business objectives.
- ** Team productivity & metrics** - Establish and monitor team KPIs, iterating on processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
- ** Culture & team engagement** - Foster an inclusive and supportive team culture through team-building initiatives and open communication.
- ** Technical contribution** - Spend 10-20% of your time on hands-on coding to stay connected with the technology and address critical technical issues as needed.

Skills and Experience
- **Proven leadership in engineering management** - Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring software engineering teams, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
- ** Technical proficiency** - Strong technical background, with hands-on coding skills and the ability to step into the codebase (10-20% of the time). Proficiency in relevant languages and frameworks (TypeScript, AWS) used at Clipboard is a plus.
- ** Strategic and operational mindset** - Experience in setting team objectives, monitoring KPIs, and driving process improvements to enhance productivity and team performance.
- ** Cross-functional collaboration** - Skilled at working with other departments, including Product and Sales, to align engineering objectives with business goals.
- ** Strong communicator** - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- ** Empathy and team-building skills** - A natural team builder who promotes an inclusive and supportive environment. Experience in managing team dynamics and fostering a positive team culture.
