The primary role of the Manager, Research Contracts is to lead and develop the Research Contracts team in Swinburne’s Research Services.

The position is expected to establish processes and systems that ensure the seamless and effective review, development, negotiation and execution of commercial research contracts, and to develop the Research Contracts team’s capacity in providing contract specific advice and guidance to researchers and stakeholders. The position will also ensure the continuous improvement of Swinburne’s standard research contract templates and research-related risk assessment processes, in this capacity working closely with Swinburne Legal. The Manager, Research Contracts will also be responsible for developing agreements for complex commercial research projects, for example, cooperative research centres, large-scale industry projects, consortia agreements or collaborative ventures, working closely with Swinburne Legal, the Industry Research Engagement team and other relevant internal stakeholders.

The Manager, Research Contracts is a highly visible representative of the University and as such must possess excellent customer service and negotiation skills, strong communication and writing skills, coupled with a thorough knowledge of research contract management. The position will need to exercise a significant degree of independence and mature judgement and be able to cultivate productive and collaborative working relationships within Research Services, Swinburne Legal and other administrative units at the University as well as key external stakeholders.

The Manager, Research Contracts reports to the Manager, Research Contracts and Grants Management in Swinburne’s Research Services. The position is responsible for the line management of the Senior Officer, Research Contracts and the Assistant, Research Contracts and Agreements.

**About You**
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

- Demonstrated relevant experience in contract administration, negotiation and management, preferably within the higher education, commercial or government environment.
- Established track record in evaluating complex rules, policies and procedures, and providing strategic advice on complex commercial and contractual issues and risks,
- Demonstrated capacity in driving system and process improvements, preferably in relation to research and contract administration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and drive performance in the provision of services.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate productive and collaborative working relationships, including ability to influence across teams and functional areas.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and work to competing deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

**Qualifications**
- Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training—**Essential**:

- Completion of a law degree or equivalent qualification with experience in legal contracts—**Preferred**
