**As our Bioinformatician your purpose will be**:
To enhance the translational research conducted by the Brain Tumours (BT) and Experimental Therapeutics/Molecular Oncology (ET/MO) Groups through provision of bioinformatics expertise, ultimately providing better targeted treatment for children with cancer.

**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:

- Taking primarily responsibility for bioinformatics analysis of internal and publicly available datasets
- Guiding experimental design and planning to ensure appropriateness for subsequent bioinformatic and statistical analyses
- Developing and implementing algorithms for next-generation sequencing analysis to:

- identify novel drug targets and assess safer therapeutics by discovering underlying targetable vulnerabilities
- analyse the biology of cancers and cancer models, including the evolution of tumours under treatment
- characterise molecular effects of novel treatment and identify biomarkers of drug response and resistance
- Using your expertise to assist in publishing high-impact manuscripts and grants from the data generated by the Brain Tumours (BT) and Experimental Therapeutics/Molecular Oncology (ET/MO) Groups, informing translational therapeutics.
- Liaising with the Bioinformatics Support Network and contributing to the bioinformatics education of researchers
- Presenting research at conferences and seminars
- Working in collaboration with other research teams at the institute as required

**Qualifications, experience, and skills required**:
Essential:

- BSc in either Bioinformatics, Biology, Molecular Biology, Computer Science or Statistics
- Experience in the analysis of RNA-seq and other Next
- Generation Sequencing data or proteomics and metabolomics data
- Expertise in at least two of Bash, R, Python or Perl
- Highly motivated, flexible, creative and empathetic
- Excellent attention to detail and proof-reading skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

- MSc or PhD in the field of cancer research
- Prior experience in the field of cancer research
- Expertise in the interpretation of molecular data analysis
