**Accountabilities**:
Working within a highly supportive and flexible team structure, the Policy Officer will support the development and delivery of specific policy initiatives and provide authoritative advice and support to improve outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.

As a Policy Officer, your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

- Contribute to the development and provision of advice and sound policy recommendations to senior management and government.
- Undertake research and contribute to the development of a range of policy and initiatives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Assist the monitoring and reporting on high priority issues, risks and trends and assist to prepare and present comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues.
- Support effective working relationships and the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Support the monitoring of existing programs and services to measure and improve the program and service experience of Aboriginal people and contribute to the development and implementation of relevant policies, programs and plans.
- Maintain an understanding of Commonwealth and State legislative and policy reform directions to influence policy development.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.

**About You**:
To be successful in this role, you will possess:

- Proven problem solving skills along with conceptual and analytical ability to reason through problems
- A creative mind with ability to generate new ideas and innovate for continuous improvement
- High sense of Integrity
- Interpersonal and teamwork ability
- Exceptional communication skills - ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people and organisations
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal community needs in contemporary society

Whilst not essential, a tertiary qualification in policy and public health related fieds and a sound understanding of the Vicotian mental health system are highly regarded.
