About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system and for providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.
What does Policy, Strategy and Priority Projects do?
Youth Justice Policy, Strategy and Priority Projects supports this work through policy and operational reform and development including providing evidence-based, youth-specific policy, strategic and responsive advice to government.
What does the Policy Officer do?
As the Policy Officer, you will prepare and coordinate reports and briefings, undertake research and contribute to policy projects.
Youth Justice is a complex and dynamic environment that requires exercising sound judgement, proactively developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, and using influence and negotiation to provide clear advice to support effective, timely actions.
What skills should a Policy Officer have?
- experience in Victorian Government administrative processes
- knowledge of current policy direction, research and issues within youth justice and/or the broader criminal justice system
- capacity to write accurate, timely and audience-appropriate documents and briefings.

A tertiary qualification in public policy, social sciences, criminology, law or related field is also desirable.
