**The Opportunity**:
- **Play a key role in managing major ocean & marine observations programs**:
- **Work with Argo robotic floats that are helping us in better understanding our oceans**:
- **Grow your research career with CSIRO in a multifaceted ongoing role**
CSIRO provides large-scale multidisciplinary science to inform the use of Australia's marine environment, and is a leading organisation in developing tools for decision making in coastal regions and providing scientific support to authorities and industries responsible for the sustainable management and use of Australian and international oceans & fisheries. Through our innovative research, state-of-the-start facilities, and trusted national & international collaborations, we continuously strive to deliver science with real impact
Joining one of our talented oceans research groups as a Physical Oceanographer, you will pay a vital multifaceted role in supporting two of CSIRO’s critical projects:
- ‘**Real-Time Argo’ Program** - We're part of a major international effort to improve our understanding of the ocean through the use of a global array of robotic floats, known as Argo floats. As a key member of this program, you will assist in managing the real-time Argo operations, by coordinating between technical teams, assisting in the preparations, and ensuring that the Argo floats deployments are effective, and that quality assurance checks are integrated to optimise the value of the collected data.
- ‘**Ocean Currents’ Project** - taking a lead role in managing this project, you will be responsible for ensuring the integration of a range of marine observations in the Australian region to serve a wide community of users. You will bring your domain expertise, and your well-developed leadership, project management and science communication skills to effectively supervise the website operations, the production of content for regular communications, the maintenance of its large data storage, as well as the coordination between different technical and research teams.
**Your duties will include**:
- Managing the real time operations of the Australian Argo program, including the processing and dissemination of data in real-time.
- Maintaining an existing suite of software, written in Matlab and Python, and contributing to the development of the next generation of software to future-proof the program.
- Developing new tools to monitor the performance of operational floats., including analysing their data return and engineering metrics to identify floats that may be developing problems (e.g., slow leaks, groundings).
- Maintaining engagement with the International Argo Data Management Team, to ensure that Argo Australia’s data standards comply with international requirements and best practice.
- Maintaining existing products for the OceanCurrent website using existing software.
- Helping develop new OceanCurrent products, ensuring compatibility of code for use by other team members.
