As part of this transition, you will be required to undergo QPS vetting in accordance with the Police Service Administration Act 1990.

About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

In early 2024, the SES are transitioning from QFES to Queensland Police Service (QPS). The SES Training Optimisation project team will be responsible for the transition of SES training requirements to QPS and for delivering post transition optimisation of SES training products and the training platform.This transition has a significant impact on the current delivery of training, training materials and access to the QFES Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Reporting to the Director, State Operations, you will be responsible for day-to-day project planning, management and reporting for the delivery of the training optimisation project, including analysing business needs, issues and/or information systems, and working with key stakeholders to review, develop and document processes and procedures to achieve strategic priorities and/or technology solutions that align with the training requirements of SES.

- Knowledge and experience or qualification in project management methodologies.
- Experience in implementing new capability and business integration strategies and plans.
- Knowledge or experience working in a quality assurance role within a Registered Training Organisation environment.

Knowledge or experience with eLearning systems (e.g. Articulate and/or Accelerate), tools and methods to enhance learning experiences.

Special requirements
- The incumbent will be appointed as a staff member of the SES and the hours of duty applicable to this role are pursuant to the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award - State 2015: specifically, the spread of ordinary hours for SES staff are 0600 to 2200, Monday to Sunday.
- Capacity to work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the state.
- Capacity to work on night and/or weekend to suite an SES volunteer environment.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Provide strategic direction in the planning, delivery and support of project initiatives, including resource requirements, policy alignment, and change management, in consideration of SES strategic training objectives for the transition to QPS.
- Implement strategies and plans and coordinate associated tasks, including regular progress status reports, detailed work schedules and stakeholder engagement requirements, to ensure quality outcomes and project deliverables are achieved.
- Provide high-level advice to senior management on a range of training, system and procedural issues impacting and/or influencing project delivery to enable informed business decisions and meet changing needs.
- Research, analyse, interpret and solve problems and issues to support project implementation and integration, and identify opportunities for improvements in processes and service delivery.
- Ensure that business outcomes, performance indicators, project deliverables and deadlines are achieved or re-prioritised to ensure the successful completion of the project on behalf of SES.
- Prepare and review complex reports, submissions and correspondence on a range of confidential issues, and opportunities relating to project initiatives, in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of initiatives, and agreed outcomes are responsive to current and future needs.
- Represent QFES on high level meetings and working groups to review and present project deliverables and status updates to ensure a consistant approach to planning and operational capabilities within SES.
