**About this opportunity**

You will complete a Certificate II Civil Construction over 12 months through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and practical on-the-job experience with your Host Employer, Shoalhaven City Council.

Throughout your formal training and practical experience in the workplace, you will have the opportunity to:

- Construct and maintain civil assets including roads, footpaths, drainage systems, roadside furniture and other assets
- Work with various materials including aggregates, bitumen, asphalt and concrete
- Traffic control (after gaining training certifications)
- Drive company utes and trucks
- Conduct earth works and operate plant equipment and machinery
- Assist in general civil construction duties that are within the limits of the skills, competence and ability of a trainee

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following capabilities and knowledge:

- Commitment to both on and off the job training
- Demonstrated interest and passion for the construction trade
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong understanding of safety and manual handling techniques
- Strong attention to detail
- Passion for working outdoors and physically fit to perform manual tasks

**Mandatory Requirements**
- Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
- COVID-19 vaccination
- Current drivers licence (P1 or above)
- WHS Construction Industry Induction (White Card (or willingness to obtain))
- Ability to undertake a Medical including a drug and alcohol screen, audiometry and spirometry
