**The Role**
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people to fill positions in our Strategic Policy Branch. This is a great opportunity to join a team that provides overarching, connected policy views on cross-cutting issues, and drives policy thinking for the Department of Education.
Our work focuses on high priorities for the Minister and Department’s Executive, such as the major reviews being conducted across early childhood, schools and higher education. We also support broader government priorities, such as the Employment White Paper, Measuring What Matters Statement, and APS Reform.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of EL1 Assistant Directors are varied, including (but not limited to):
- Leading department-wide priority policy projects and advice, including about current and future trends and opportunities in education (e.g., AI, educator workforce shortages)
- producing data-driven, analytically robust strategic documents on complex issues (papers and presentations etc) with a focus on narrative and persuasion
- developing high level executive and Ministerial briefing material (Ministerial Submissions, Senate Estimate Briefs etc) on a wide range of topics tailored to varied audiences
- building and maintaining networks to support policy development, including areas within the department and across the APS and external networks (e.g., OECD, academia)
- leading activities to support the department’s strategic policy capability, including delivering hypothesis-driven approaches to complex problems, promoting futures analysis, and developing reference and guidance material (i.e., toolkits).
**Qualifications and Education**
Experience in policy development and advice is essential.
