Sydney, Australia Australian Communications and Media Authority Full time

**Expression of Interest**

**Project Officer - Investigations**

**What you will do**

You’ll join the Investigations Branch (the Branch) at the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety), which administers eSafety’s regulatory schemes aimed at remediating harm to individuals. Regulatory investigations are supported in the Branch by Intelligence and Capability Enhancement teams through the production of strategic and operational insights into online harms and capability uplift.

The Branch is seeking a Project Officer with a demonstrated ability to be a motivated member of the Capability Enhancement team, dedicated to the effective administration of regulatory schemes to address serious online abuse and achieve eSafety’s mission of making the online world a safer and more positive place for Australians.
- Be a key member of a small team working flexibly across the Branch on key projects, with a current focus on major capability uplift projects.
- Oversee multiple projects, managing scope, time, cost, quality and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate project success.
- Identify risks, manage budgets and report on the financial status of projects.
- Conduct systemic analysis to draw accurate conclusions and resolve issues.
- Provide information, updates and advice to project leads and the senior leadership team.
- Research and build an evidence base to support eSafety’s delivery of our regulatory schemes, drawing on insights from a range of sources, including direct engagement with providers, eSafety staff, law enforcement agencies and other regulators.
- Develop materials to assist in implementing regulatory schemes, including procedures for eSafety Investigations staff.
- Draft and contribute to policy papers, governance documents, briefs and discussions relating to digital services regulation, investigations best-practice and work to promote regulatory coherence.
- Work closely and collaboratively with other teams across eSafety on all facets of projects.
- Support engagement with stakeholders across the online industry, government, and non-government organisations, including advocacy groups, researchers, technology service providers and others.

**The skills & capabilities you need to perform the role**
- Can demonstrate capabilities against the Australian Public Service Commission Integrated Leadership System (ILS) APS 6 profile.
- Has experience in project management, investigations and/or compliance processes.
- Ideally has experience with or awareness of the regulation of digital services, particularly the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth) or related legislative frameworks across Australia and the globe (regulatory or other investigations experience will be well regarded).
- Has excellent critical thinking, written and verbal communications skills and can develop and put forward evidence-based information clearly for a range of audiences.
- Is an initiative-taker with the ability to work with limited guidance in a dynamic environment.

**What you will gain from the experience**
- Play a key role with a globally unique regulator, supporting the administration of regulatory schemes to address serious online abuse.
- Drive real change helping to make Australians safer online.
- Take part in and contribute to important developments in investigations practice.

**About the team**

You will work across the Investigations Branch on key projects and priorities but will be ‘based’ in the Capability Enhancement team.

The Branch works closely with eSafety’s legal, technology and education outreach teams - particularly in relation to our regulatory actions and prevention strategies.

The Branch currently has approximately forty staff based in Sydney, with a positive and collegial culture.

**Additional information**

The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a NSW Working with Children Check.

Expressions of interest are sought for an initial period of 12 months (with the possibility of extension), from current APS employees. Permanent transfers, at level, may be considered by negotiation.

Please be aware that while this role does not involve direct exposure to class 1 or class 2 material (such as child sexual exploitation material and online pornography), it does require in-depth and frequent discussion of online harms including child sexual abuse, terrorism and violent extremism.

The work of eSafety Investigators requires frequent exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing material, requiring a high degree of resilience, professionalism, and effective self-care strategies. While not a core function of this role, the Project Officer may be exposed to such material on occasion.

eSafety offers a hybrid working environment, however, due to the nature of the work performed by Investigators, along with privacy and security considerations, staff in the Branch are required to work a portion of their week in-p
