The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia’s (NFSA) requires a Collection Systems Specialist to configure and maintain core systems related to the management of the collection. Based in the Digital Platforms team, the role involves conceiving, documenting and implementing technical solutions to ensure the preservation and access of audiovisual collection material, transcoding representative derived files, and file metadata extraction. The role works closely with the Digital Collection Services and Digital Infrastructure teams in enabling crucial digital ingest pipelines, both from internally created files digitised from analogue source, and incoming born-digital materials. The role is highly technical and requires a strong awareness of digital media characteristics, available tooling and best digital preservation practises.

Under limited direction undertake the following duties:

- Troubleshooting and resolving workflow issues as they occur.
- Conceiving and implementing solutions to issues specific to audiovisual/multimedia archives.
- Provide documentation for appropriate system use and solutions.

**Selection Criteria**

In relation to the ‘Job Details’ listed above, concisely demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements against each of the following areas:

- Demonstrated professional experience working with a Media Asset Management, Digital Asset Management and/or Collection Management System.
- Strong practical skills in identifying issues and engineering solutions to problems encountered during file transcoding and/or metadata extraction processes.
- Experience arriving at innovative solutions to problems faced by a collecting institution, drawing upon knowledge from diverse disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience documenting processes, procedures, and internal standards. Version control of internal documentation.

**Desired Skills and Experience**:

- Experience with at least one general-purpose scripting language (Python, Bash).
- Experience with common cataloguing models and terminology (MARC, FRBR, RDA) would be desirable.
- Experience with Markdown and Mermaid (or similar) documentation syntax would be desirable.
- Experience with APIs, including automated pipelines and orchestration would be desirable.
- Knowledge or interest in audiovisual/multimedia technologies and/or history.
- A working knowledge of the Office 365 environment would be desirable.

- Be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance Requirements**
- This position requires the successful applicant to undergo an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Criminal Record Check.
- The successful applicant will be required to hold, or be able to obtain, a Baseline security clearance.
