**POSITION OVERVIEW**:

- Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person centred care. **We are a large medical team of 40 FACEMs, a postgraduate fellow, 3 Senior Registrars, 30 registrars, and multiple other junior medical staff.**:
**It is a very exciting time for Canberra Hospital Emergency Department (ED), with a modern, expanded physical space consisting of a 5-bed resuscitation area, 30 acute beds, 16 short stay beds, fast track stream with a sub-wait and 14 treatment spaces and a dedicated paediatric area with 6 beds and 2 consult rooms. The coming years include the building of “Canberra Hospital Expansion” - new build for critical care services with a state of the art 114 bed Emergency Department.**:
**We are one of the busiest EDs in the country**:

- We are seeing over 89,000 presentations per annum.
- We have approximately 20% paediatric presentations.
- We have high acuity with admission rates of more than 35%.
- We have a significant trauma caseload.
- The Emergency Department at Canberra Hospital offers a unique, wide-ranging and exciting experience rarely available in a single hospital.

**DUTIES**:

- Be responsible for immediate patient care including adequate history taking, physical examination, ongoing continuous review of patient condition and progress, investigations and therapy indicated by unit protocol or as directed by the duty specialist. Determine and facilitate disposition of patient, with guidance from senior clinicians.
- Perform specialised procedures on the direction and under supervision of the duty specialist.
- Participate in rostered education sessions and prepare material for, clinical presentations and mortality/morbidity reviews as directed.
- Participate in rostered duties as allocated (24/7).

6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Willingness to actively participate in acquiring emergency medical skills.- High level of commitment to the emergency medical team and an ability to work collaboratively.**Position Requirements/Qualifications**:

- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or be eligible for Registration via the Competent Authority Pathway.
- At least two completed post graduate years of training prior to the commencement of this position.
- Current competency in Advanced Life Support
- Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems.
- Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening & vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
