**The Role**:
The Youth Counsellor will be a pivotal role within the Community Youth space. The counsellor will contribute to developing and providing a high quality, early intervention intake response to young people, their families and community services.
The counsellor will have a direct role in the engagement, assessment, coordination and implementation of clinical care for young people and their families accessing headspace Geraldton.
The counsellor will assist in the referral of young people to appropriate programs within the community agencies. In addition, the position will participate in community awareness raising activities that promote early help seeking and intervention for mental health and substance use.

**Criteria**:

- Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing
- Registration with relevant professional body - e.g., AHPRA, AASW, ACA
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills with a minimum of 12 months experience working with young people at risk of suicide, depression, anxiety and/or self-harm.
- providing follow up support and referral for treatment as indicated
- Experience and ability to deliver and evaluate group programs and educational sessions for young people
- Ability to work with flexibility in responding to young people and their needs
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Current Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
