**Conditions**

All Music Tutors are responsible to the Principal. On a day to day
basis, Music Tutors are responsible to the Director of Performance

**Key Relationships**
and Co-curricular Music and work closely with all Music Department
staff.

**_Position Objective: _**
Westminster School’s performance and reputation are enhanced because of the quality and engagement
in instrumental and vocal music tuition across the school, the skill development demonstrated by
instrumental and vocal music students, and because of the contribution to the School’s desired culture
and to School improvement initiatives made by the incumbent.

**_Key Responsibilities: _**
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
- Be proactive in ensuring the good order of the School and maintenance of the School property

and facilities.
- Follow the principles and guidelines of the Behaviour Management Policy in working with

students, as well as handling instances of non-compliance with School codes of behaviour and
uniform.
- Attend Professional Learning activities as required.
- Participation in appropriate Preparatory, Senior, and whole-School community events.
- Maintain a music classroom environment which is stimulating, focused and engaging, and which

reflects the School’s values and ethos.
- Effectively tutor students using appropriate instructing and learning strategies.
- Keep abreast of any specific student needs as recorded in School files and support these in the

classroom.
- Assist with Year 3 String and Year 5 Band program as directed
- Assist with student assessment and grading of student performance.
- Assist teaching staff to prepare reports on students at both formal and informal levels, using verbal and

written communications.
- In conjunction with teaching staff, initiate contact with students and parents as appropriate, concerning

developmental progress and behaviour.
- Actively engage in all facets of the music co-curricular program as negotiated.
- Assist with performances both within and outside Westminster School.
- Cater for, and be inclusive of, the diverse needs of learners.

**Other Responsibilities**
- All employees are expected to contribute fully to the life of the School, particularly with respect to musical

requirements at Chapel, Assemblies and such other co-curricular activities as may be required.
- Other duties, as required by Principal, commensurate with the position.

**_Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience _**
- Demonstrated high level skills in establishing effective working relationships with staff, students, and

parents
- Sound understanding of contemporary organisational practices appropriate to the management of

instrumental and vocal tuition programs
- Understands needs and requirements of teachers and students involved in individual music tuition.
- Experience in music and education, preferably in a school setting.
- Knowledge, expertise and understanding of specific learning area on instrument or voice.

**_Key Selection Criteria: Personal Qualities _**
- An excellent practitioner with a successful record of working with adolescents and children, preferably

in a school or other educational environment.
- Organised and flexible, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks and be proactive.
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Have appropriate knowledge and experience in working with children and adolescents.
- Flexible in approach to working hours.
- Positive approach, with a personable and professional manner.

**_Safety and Wellbeing _**
All staff must:

- Take reasonable care of, and cooperate with actions taken to protect, the health and safety of both

themselves and others
- Report all accidents, incidents and hazards to their supervisors as soon as is practicable
- Read and abide by all WHS policies.
