**Position Information**:
Maryland Public School opened in 1992 and has a proud tradition of building positive, constructive relationships with students, caregivers and the broader community. Maryland Public School is located in a residential zone between Wallsend and Minmi on Awabakal land. The school draws on a vibrant, family orientated and involved local community. The school is an integral part of the Callaghan Community of Schools, with strong links to Callaghan College Wallsend and the broader Callaghan Education Pathway. Currently, the school has an enrolment of 383 students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. 13.3% of our students identify as Aboriginal and 20.6% of students are from backgrounds where English is an additional language or dialect.

Maryland Public School has spacious grounds, modern facilities and classroom environments equipped for future learning. Our school takes pride in the variety and depth of learning activities and opportunities available to our students. These include core academic programs based on current research, provisions for high performing students, learning support programs and a wide variety of extra-curricular programs. Maryland hosts a selective-entry Opportunity Class which caters for academically gifted Year 5 and 6 students with high potential as well as a dedicated inclusive education unit of four classes for students with identified additional needs.

Staff work in collaborative partnership with families, P&C, our local AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultative Group) and the broader community. Our community strongly supports and endorses our vision statement, "Every child, every opportunity, every day." Staff at Maryland are committed to providing quality teaching, learning and wellbeing in a secure educational environment. At Maryland Public School our students develop 'Skills for Life'.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated capacity to prioritise and support staff and student wellbeing
- Ability to promote continued excellence through collaborative strategic planning in a culture of collective efficacy
- Ability to build the capacity of staff to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and students who have a diverse range of needs

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
