Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children’s and parenting services, counselling, support, men’s programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Children's Therapeutic Practitioner who will be responsible for the provision of evidence-based, trauma informed therapeutic Family Violence interventions, primarily counselling, to children on an individual and group basis.

You will successfully
- The Children’s Therapeutic Practitioner applies an intersectional feminist analysis and deep understanding of the gendered nature of family violence, works with clients’ strengths, and utilises their expertise in counselling and/or therapeutic models, skills, techniques, and modalities.
- Providing therapeutic interventions and counselling to children who have experienced family violence, such as play therapy (including group work)
- Provide professional and confidential counselling to children who have experienced or are experiencing family violence, in order to effectively reduce risks to their safety and enable their long-term recovery
- Use professional risk assessment and best practice in safety planning in line with the FV Stream protocols, procedures and clinical governance framework.
- Engage appropriate risk management follow-up as required.

You will have
- Degree qualification in social work, psychology and/ or counselling
- Be a member and registered with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc)
- Experience in counselling children and families who have experienced trauma
- Experience with women and children who have experienced family violence.
- Strong history of working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs.
- Relevant child protection requirements are obtained for example Working with children check.
- Evidence of qualifications

This is a Max-term (31/01/2025), part-time (30.4hrs per week) position located in Noosaville, QLD however travel to Caloundra will be required. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Level 6 Award.
