The role you could play


This position as Counsellor, would be responsible for the provision of evidence-based, trauma informed therapeutic interventions, primarily counselling, to women on an individual and group basis.


This specialist role is designed to:

  • Deliver specialist family violence counselling interventions and group work to women who have experienced family violence
  • Establish and maintain resources relevant to supporting women and children who are experiencing family violence
  • Proactively participate in, and support networks that are improving outcomes for women and children experiencing family violence
  • Respect the diverse needs of all community groups and individuals to ensure that their needs are met in an inclusive and sensitive manner.
Duties

  • Provide professional and confidential counselling to women who have experienced or are experiencing family violence, in order to effectively reduce risks to their safety and enable their longterm recovery
  • Use professional risk assessment and best practice in safety planning in line with the FV Stream protocols, procedures and clinical governance framework.
  • Engage appropriate risk management followup as required
  • Consult with the Family Violence team in relation to the management of more complex and/or highrisk cases


This is a max-term (until 30 June 2024), part-time (15 hours per week) position, located in Caloundra and Noosaville, QLD.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Health Professionals and Support Services Level 3 Award.

  • Degree qualification in counselling or equivalent required
  • At least 3 years of experience in a counsellor or similar position required
  • Be a member and registered with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc)
  • Experience in counselling women who have experienced trauma
  • Experience with women and children who have experienced family violence.
  • Experience working with women from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs
  • A current Working With Children Check is required
  • A national police record check is required (to be completed in the recruitment process)
