**Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative Limited**
The name Wathaurong (Wadda-Wurrung) is a recognised Tribe
(community which consists of some 25 Clans) that form part of
the Kulin Nation of Aboriginal people. The Traditional
boundaries of the Wathaurong people span the coastline from
the Werribee River to Lorne peninsula and traverse inland to a
north direction towards Ballarat. Wathaurong services
Aboriginal Communities living on Wadda-Wurrung, Gulidjan and
Gadubanud Countries.
Wathaurong was formed by community in 1978 as a place of common ground where Aboriginal
people could be together and share in a sense of community with formal registration in 1980 to
support the social, economic, and cultural development of Aboriginal people, particularly within
the Geelong and surrounding areas. Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative Limited is an
Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by an Aboriginal Board who are
elected through the Annual General Meeting process annually, with their Chief Executive Officer
to operationalize the strategic directives of the Board.

**Purpose of the Role**
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System has challenged us to think beyond
incremental improvement to deliver a mental health system that helps all Victorians live their
best lives. In a region characterised by fragmentation, complexity, and access barriers,
implementing the Greater Geelong and Borough of Queenscliff (GGQ) Mental Health and
Wellbeing Local is a key step in realising this goal.

**Purpose of the Role**
The GGQ Mental Health and Wellbeing Local is delivered by a consortium of equal partners:
Barwon Health, Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative Ltd, Wellways Australia and ermha365.
The GGQ Mental Health and Wellbeing Local is underpinned by positivity, hope and inclusion.
No matter whether a consumer, carer or provider enters or seeks assistance via digital
platforms, contact centre, or physical locations, the first engagement will always start with a
simple question: “Welcome, how can we help?”. Drawing on established services, networks,
and pathways, the GGQ Mental Health and Wellbeing Local provides seamless integration
between local, area and wellbeing services for the benefit of consumers, carers, and providers.
This is supported through standardised assessment tools, treatment and support processes,
care plans and care coordination, colocation of services and regional navigational pathways.

The Aboriginal Mental Health and AOD worker role aim to enhance the effectiveness of the
Aboriginal community members management and treatment of mental health and substance
use disorders. By providing culturally appropriate care that contributes to improvement in
Mental Health and substance use outcomes of Aboriginal community members, through the
provision of:
- Assessing of Aboriginal peoples needs relating to IAR levels of care required
- Providing ongoing assessment, and direct support to Aboriginal people with complex
needs.
- Encouraging and raising awareness within the Aboriginal community on how to take
positive action to deal with Mental Health and alcohol and other drugs issues

- To work with the Health Service team, other Wathaurong programs and external
agencies to develop effective strategies for appropriate referral of clients.
**Key Result Area Key Responsibilities**
**Primary Responsibilities **- Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including with
colleagues who have lived and living experience of mental
health conditions or as carers of those who do.
- Create links and relationships with local service providers,
clinical mental health and/or other allied health professionals
and services to assist with referral
pathways and meeting the needs of participants
