**About the University and the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS)**

**The Opportunity**

As the IMOS Indigenous Engagement Officer you will work to enhance and expand the IMOS program through helping identify, develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with Indigenous community. This will include supporting new initiatives that have high relevance to Indigenous people such as coastal research infrastructure. In addition, you will:

- Identify and advance opportunities for linkage, co-design and co-delivery of marine and estuarine research infrastructure with Indigenous people.
- Leverage and enhance existing IMOS partnerships and help develop new partnerships with Indigenous community to build mutual respect and understanding, collect data and share knowledge on marine ecosystems, coastal habitats and Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
- Identify and support Indigenous community priorities and establish clear Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) protocols for IMOS to protect any sharing or use of Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
- Provide guidance to establish and foster high levels of cultural competency within IMOS ensuring CARE principles for Indigenous data governance.
- Help develop and implement tools to track, evaluate and improve Indigenous partnerships and engagement.
- Provide strategic advice to IMOS and CoastRI to inform planning and operations.

**What you will need to succeed**

To be successful in this exciting role you will have:

- Experience with Indigenous community engagement, including understanding cultural perspectives and restrictions.
- A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in social science, Indigenous Australian culture, or environmental science.
- The ability to prepare written content for and speak to various audiences including cultural competency that allows for diverse and adaptable communication.
- Organisational and time management skills including the ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects.
- Ability to work autonomously to deadlines to achieve desired outcomes, as well as the ability to work in a team environment and with a range of partner organisations.

**What’s on offer?**

On offer is a full time, fixed-term role with the potential to extend depending on business needs. This role will attract a base salary starting from $107,829 plus 17% superannuation. The position is covered by the UTAS 2021 - 2025 Staff Agreement and the salary offer will be commensurate with relevant skills and experience. Relocation assistance is available for those considering a move to Tasmania as well as flexible working arrangements. Preferably based at Hobart’s world-renowned Salamanca waterfront, you will have the opportunity to work across a meaningful marine science infrastructure program that is making a tangible difference to society, science and the natural environment.
