Melbourne, Australia Environment Protection Authority Full time

Location: Melbourne | CBD

Job type: Full time

Organisation: Environment Protection Authority

**Salary**: $91,418 - $103,725

Occupation: Other

Reference: 390

**Regulatory Assessment Officer**
- VPS4 | $91,418 - $103,725 salary range
- Hybrid working options | 200 Victoria Street, Carlton
- Full Time | Multiple ongoing roles

**About the Organisation**

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) was established in 1971 as Victoria's environmental regulator. EPA's role is to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and the environment. We work in a complex and ever-changing operating environment. As the needs of Victorians change, we must be equipped to adapt and respond to a range of factors.

**Benefits of working with EPA**:

- Contribute to the protection of Victoria's environment and our people's health.
- A focus on work/life balance and development opportunities.
- A diverse and inclusive workplace with many career pathways.
- Hybrid and flexible work arrangement options.

**About the role(s)**:

- Complete regulatory assessments as a Financial Assurance and Levy Officer in the Compliance Programs Unit.
- Be principally involved in the consideration of risks from waste and contaminated land industries to assess the need for a financial security to be provided to conduct the activity.
- Excellent opportunity to work in a regulatory function at EPA which examines the risks of site activities. Please note this is not a role in EPA’s finance area.

Financial assurances are a regulatory tool intended to prevent the Victorian community bearing the financial cost of cleaning up a site to address environmental and human health risks. A financial assurance works like a security deposit; by providing it, a duty holder assures EPA that if a site needs to be cleaned-up, funds are available. It is a critical regulatory program that manages the potential risk to the state of activities undertaken by certain industry sectors.

**What you’ll do**:

- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the team and other parts of EPA in the completion of financial assurance assessments.
- Contribute to the delivery of the waste levy program, with involvement in the validation and auditing of waste levies generated from waste disposal to landfills.
- Opportunity to be involved in executive and regulatory committee papers on regulatory matters, and involvement in legal advice requests and examining advice provided.
- Support the continuous improvement of the financial assurance and waste levies programs, including contributing to procedures and projects to enhance the programs.
- Have excellent professional written and verbal communication.
- Hold strong stakeholder management skills.

**Skills and experience**:
Here are the types of experience, qualifications, and qualities we are looking for:

- Holds a relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in environmental science, engineering, waste management or related fields.
- Exceptional organisation and authoritative stakeholder management skills are required, along with excellence in data analysis and management.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver with competing deadlines, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Knowledge of financial assurance and waste levies is desirable.
- A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.

**How to apply**

Applicants should submit:

- Cover letter; addressing your experience and motivations, and suitability for the role.
- Resume; including contact details of two referees.

**Need to know more?**

EPA Victoria recognises the value of the diversity, strength, and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as we work with Traditional Owners to care for our environment. We provide a culturally safe and embracing work environment.

We are an equal opportunity employer with a commitment to merit, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. We believe our workforce should represent the diversity of the lands upon which we reside; and we actively embrace staff of different abilities, orientations, backgrounds, faiths, and genders.

You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (for ongoing roles) or hold a valid work permit or visa.
