Belconnen, Australia Australian Bureau of Statistics Full time

salary: $68,122 - $76,629 (plus 15.4% super & allowances)
- location: Adelaide
- non-ongoing full-time or part-time positions; flexible working arrangements

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit **Data Analysts** to work in our Health and Disability Surveys teams. These are non-ongoing (12 months), full-time or part-time positions at the APS 4 classification level.

Based on the needs of the hiring area, the roles are only available to be filled in our Adelaide office, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

**About the Area and Role**

The Health and Disability Surveys teams are located mainly in Adelaide and Canberra with about 50 people.

These teams progress the collection and processing of data to provide insights into important social issues. They are responsible for key collections covering topics such as: mental health; disability; education; crime time use; and surveys about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The data from these collections helps inform Australia’s important decisions. For example, the Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers tells us how many Australians live with disability so policy makers can provide support.

The Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing, which is currently underway, will shed light on mental health in Australia during the COVID pandemic.

As a Data Analyst your role will involve:

- Undertaking quality assurance and analysis of data and statistics to ensure consistency and coherence with other data.
- Producing estimates, counts and other aggregate statistics.
- Work as part of a team to deliver complex projects. They can work with limited supervision and solve problems in their work.
- Partnering with other ABS areas who are part of the statistical cycle (from methodology, collection to publication) to produce quality and fit for purpose data and related products.

**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

- strong conceptual, analytical and creative problem solving skills
- ability to contribute to a high performing team, including teams from across different sections
- great oral and written communication skills
- experience in, or the ability to learn, one or more statistical programming languages, such as R, python or SAS.

Also desirable (but not essential) are:

- academic qualifications in statistics, psychology/social sciences, data science, mathematics or other fields with a strong quantitative component
- experience in a data or statistical analysis role.

**How to Apply**

You will need to upload your current resume and provide referee details.

Should you wish, you will be able to include an **_optional_** statement of claims (no more than 300 words) addressing how you possess the necessary qualities, skills and experience for the role.
