The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit a **Statistical Analyst (APS5)** and a **Statistical Team Leader (APS6)** to work as part of our Construction Statistics Section.

These are ongoing, full-time or part-time positions at the APS 5 and APS 6 classification levels. Flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

**About the area and roles**

We are looking to fill the roles of Statistical Analyst (APS5) and Statistical Team Leader (APS6) in the Construction Statistics Section. The purpose of the Construction Statistics Section is to provide important and timely information on economic activity and housing supply.

Our statistics are a direct input into the compilation of the quarterly National Accounts and are relied upon by agencies like the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and The Treasury to inform and monitor economic policy for Australia. We maintain strong partnerships with our key users across the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments and industry to ensure we and our statistics remain relevant and high quality.

The Construction Statistics Section consists of approximately 22 people working in Adelaide. The section has key partnerships with other ABS economic statistics teams, located all over Australia. The nature of these relationships requires Construction Statistics staff to work in the Adelaide ABS office and virtually.

As a **Statistical Analyst (APS5)** you will:

- manage the collection, compilation and analysis of Construction & Housing statistics
- manage staff to deliver daily and weekly processes
- interrogate and manipulate data to ensure quality and coherence.

Responsibilities include daily management of the collection and production of construction statistics, including the Building Approvals (BAPS) collection, the Engineering Construction Survey (ECS) and the Building Activity Survey (BACS).

As a **Statistical Team Leader (APS6)** you will:

- lead a team in the analysis, collection and compilation of Construction & Housing statistics
- undertake external stakeholder engagement and collaborate with internal partners in other economic statistics teams, including the National Accounts Branch
- contribute to the broader leadership of the section and division.

Responsibilities include leading a small team in the collection and production of construction statistics, including the Building Approvals (BAPS) collection, the Engineering Construction Survey (ECS) and the Building Activity Survey (BACS).

**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**

We are interested in Statistical Analysts (APS5) with most or all the following skills, qualities and experience:

- Experience managing staff to achieve results (manage and improve structured tasks and projects)
- Experience with statistical/analytical software (R, SAS, SQL etc.)
- Conceptual and analytical skills relating to data manipulation and analysis
- Maintain productive working relationships (internal)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Personal drive and integrity

We are interested in Statistical Team Leaders (APS6) with most or all the following skills, qualities and experience:

- Experience leading small teams to achieve results (deliver projects/work program)
- Experience with statistical/analytical software (R, SAS, SQL etc.)
- Conceptual and analytical skills relating to data manipulation and analysis
- Develop productive working relationships (internal & external)
- Communicate with influence
- Personal drive and integrity

A background working in, or qualifications related to statistics, economics or computer science will be advantageous (but not essential) for both roles.
