Purpose of the role

This Retail Sorter role provides support in raising much needed funds to enable The Salvation Army (TSA) to

serve the needs of the local community, whilst providing an environment where customers and volunteers are

treated with the dignity and respect reflected in the values and mission of TSA.

Role capabilities

- Escalates issues when these are identified

Focus on People we Serve

- Works responsibly within the limits of own role and capabilities
- Confirms satisfaction with services and addresses or escalates complaints

Plan for Service Delivery
- Plans and coordinates allocated activities
- Understands team service delivery objectives and how own work relates to achieving these
- Re-prioritises own work activities on a regular basis to achieve set service delivery goals

Sort donated clothes and stock

Key Activities
- At the start of the shift, check your area, cull and tidy, as this helps with stock rotation
- Ensure all clothing is clean, stain free, zips are in working condition without holes and wellpresented before hanging on rack, or in baskets
- Check inside of bags for money and ensure bags are in good condition.
- Check to ensure that shoes are clean and without worn heels.
- Ensure that all bric a brac are clean, not chipped, well presented and priced.
- Ensure that craft items are suitably packaged.
- Place excess books, puzzles and games in the rag shed
- Learn about recycling clothing options

Expected Outcomes
- All dirty/ stained or unsuitable clothing are not put up for sale for shelves (but are placed in white rag bags).
- Unsuitable shoes and bags are not put up for sale on shelves (but are placed in white rag bags)
- All goods are in a safe and working condition

Maintain a safe and healthy environment

Key Activities
- Monitor and rectify any health and safety concerns within the premises

Expected Outcomes
- Report any potential health and safety concerns to Manager
- Complete hazard/ incident and accident form in a timely way

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role

Experience in customer service is preferred but not required

Mandatory requirements of the Role
- Complete TSA volunteer registration form and signing volunteer agreement form - Integrity checks as required
- Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required

Roster & time commitment

Various days and shifts by agreement and as per roster
