Transport Policy Branch draws from policy insights, emerging issues and opportunities, research and analysis to shape 'whole of transport system' policy. The Queensland Transport Strategy (QTS) is TMR's 30 year policy horizon and the Queensland Transport Strategy (QTS) is the 10 year strategic plan. The QTS and TCP are reviewed, evaluated and refreshed every 2-5 years to support organisational direction and achieve strategic customer outcomes.

Continued analysis of customer preferences, broader government objectives, global trends, emerging technology and solutions that enhance the safety and sustainability of the transport system will ensure the QTS, and TCP remain evidence-based, future focussed and keep up with the momentum of change being experienced in the transport sector, industry and Queensland communities.
In the role of Principal Policy Advisor, you will deliver strategic policy, frameworks, programmes, projects and advice that provide direction for the development of Queensland's transport system that align to the departments key strategic objectives.

**Accountabilities include**:

- Develop, deliver and evaluate policy to support the strategic direction of the department to maximise the benefits of current and emerging trends and technologies, support decarbonisation of the transport sector as well as balance the movement of people and goods safely and efficiently into the future with places that promote social equity, economic vitality, health and well-being.
- Research and analyse issues, risks, opportunities and challenges confronting the transport system to shape 'whole of transport systems' policy direction in response to emerging customer requirements, local, state and national transport system, economic and policy issues.
- Ensure the Queensland Transport Strategy and the Transport Coordination Plan can leverage from signals of change and provide confidence and agility to TMR wide strategic policy direction.
- Identify and develop complex strategic transport policy options and contribute to the implementation of projects, and/or programmes that support the direction for Queensland's transport system.
- Inform future focused policy evaluation frameworks which can critically examine emerging trends and look for signals of change generated by industry, technology and customer preferences and align proposed policy responses to the strategic objectives.
- Provide timely high level advice on transport system priorities, policy and challenges to executive management.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across the department, government, industry and community in relation to the achievement of strategic transport system priorities.
- Participate in project teams, comprising internal and external stakeholders, to develop and implement strategic transport policy and projects within agreed quality, cost, and time parameters.
- Prepare timely and well researched cabinet submissions, briefs and/or policy documents.
- Create a positive work environment that will build and support a culture of continuous learning and high performance.

This role reports to the Manager, and has no direct reports.
