The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) delivers high quality teaching and learning support programs, servicing both ECU students and academic staff.

The Learning Adviser is part of the Learning Support function of the Centre, working to support the development and implementation of specific learning programs for students, including academic skills, English language proficiency, science, and numeracy skills.

The Role
The Learning Adviser is responsible for supporting the retention of undergraduate and postgraduate students by assisting them to develop all aspects of academic literacy, including information literacy, communication, numeracy, and study skills to enable them to meet the requirements of their course. This involves conducting individual appointments, drop-ins, and workshops in online and face-to-face formats. It also involves developing of self-access academic skills resources and engaging with a variety of learning technologies and platforms. Regular collaboration with key stakeholders is also essential, including students, academic staff, CLT team members, librarians, and careers advisers.

Prioritising the needs of ECU’s diverse cohort, the role provides a student-focused, efficient service, aimed at improving student retention and progression. The role is an important team member in contributing to the day-to-day operations of ECU’s Academic Skills Centres and Learning Hubs, including responding to student queries and redirecting students to other support services when required.

ECU has a commitment to improving the communication skills of all students. The broad focus of this position and the Learning Support team is to assist students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a range of disciplines to develop their academic communication skills. The Learning Adviser is required to have an ability to use a range of delivery modes and technologies, both face-to-face and online, to enhance these skills for coursework students.

The successful applicants will possess the following capabilities:
A graduate qualification or progression towards a higher degree in Education and subsequent relevant teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

Demonstrated experience in supporting student skills development in individual and group settings, including academic communication and study skills

Demonstrated experience in using learning technologies to support students in a higher education environment

Demonstrated experience in resource development related to academic skills development

Strong interpersonal skills and experience supporting people of diverse cultural backgrounds

A highly collaborative approach with a record of having achieved significant goals through teamwork.

In addition to the criteria above, a background in numeracy and/or science would be highly desirable.

Benefits & Remuneration
This ongoing part-time position attracts a remuneration of $97,113 to $108,813 (pro-rata 60%) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
