What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Surveillance Analyst.

AFP appointees contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. Within the AFP, Covert Analysis and Assurance (CAA) provides a variety of operational support functions.

**The work may include**:
Commitment to the future direction of CAA technical and monitoring capability with a focus on innovation and improving customer service
Mentoring and developing members to build a team capability by ensuring that a high level of technical knowledge is obtained and maintained
Developing and maintaining a good working knowledge of criminal investigation practices and procedures, intelligence gathering processes and the use of technical equipment and computer systems used in the collection process
Proactively work to build and manage good working relationships with relevant stakeholders
Undertaking a range of operational support tasks including administrative duties when required or as directed
Maintaining a good understanding of relevant legislation including the Telecommunications (Interceptions and Access) Act 1979 and the Surveillance Devices Act 2004
Positively influencing and encouraging a productive and harmonious working environment

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

**Responsibilities within the role include**:
Providing operational and real-time support through the collection, analysis and dissemination of covertly and lawfully intercepted product that assists in supporting criminal investigations
Providing analytical visualisations and products to address stakeholder requirements through the collection and processing of covertly collected LII and metadata
Maintaining specialised knowledge of technical aspects of CAA, including high level use of AFP computer systems and enhance the AFP's ability to prevent, detect, investigate and disrupt crime
Identifying new data types or changes to data source where greater enrichment or exploitation opportunities may arise
Enriching received data to provide greater operational insight
Interrogating open-source systems and CAA data bases to enrich analysis efforts
Producing and disseminating data analysis products in line with customer requirements
Utilising multiple AFP and computer based information systems to interrogate, input, collate and retrieve data for operational support
Working as part of a team in achieving individual and team outputs through demonstrated analytical communication and organisational skills
Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
Experience with data analysis and exploitation
A proven ability to identify, validate and report on data generated from a diverse range of processess
A proven ability to maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and communicate and interpret effectively both written and orally
Desirable Requirements

A proven ability to manage and critically assess
