A new opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and motivated Clinical Coder to join the dynamic and supportive Newcastle Region Health Information Service coding team, located at Lake Macquarie Private and Warners Bay Private Hospitals.

The Newcastle coding team enjoy working with an interesting and diverse acute and sub-acute case-mix including: mental health; rehabilitation; cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery; vascular and endovascular surgery; general, colorectal and bariatric surgery; orthopaedic surgery; oral and maxillo-facial surgery; urology; gynaecology; medical and radiation oncology; respiratory and general medicine; cosmetic and plastic surgery.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Timely and accurate clinical coding using 3M Encoder
- Analysis and verification of clinical documentation to ensure high quality coded data that accurately represents each inpatient episode, with clinician follow up/liaison to obtain clarification where insufficient detail is documented
- Participation in education activities to develop coding practice and clinical knowledge
- Participation in clinical data integrity activities including coding quality audits, and Hospital Acquired Complication (HAC) and clinical indicator data validation

**Essential Criteria**
- Clinical coding qualification - HIMAA, OTEN or tertiary HIM qualification
- Minimum of three (3) years clinical coding experience
- Up-to-date knowledge and experience using ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS 12th edition
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of anatomy, pathophysiology, and clinical interventions
- Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience using 3M Codefinder
- Previous experience coding in a private hospital setting
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite e.g. Excel
