THE ROLE

Key Accountabilities include:
- Classify (code) diseases and procedures for separations using the 3M Code Finder and ICD 10 AM coding books / eBooks, dictionary, coding authority and any other resources when necessary in accordance with National Coding Standards.- Liaise with internal / external clinical coders regarding coding queries and coordinate follow-up of queries with clinicians.- Perform cancer registration where required.- Monitor and evaluate coding statistics to ensure targets and key performance indicators are met.- Be actively involved in Quality Projects.- Regularly report to the Manager, Health Information Services or Senior Clinical Coder on the status of coding and issues relating to the evaluation of information and any significant trends that are observed.- Ensure confidentiality for patient information used in data collection and reporting systems.- Adhere to statutory regulations & hospital policies and procedures.- Develop close working relationships with clinicians, health information managers and staff, to support an understanding of the various mechanisms of information collection and its use in evidence-based decision making.- Assist Department with key responsibilities, including clerical, reporting, medico-legal etc as required- Undertake projects and other activities where requested by the Manager, Health Information Services or Senior Clinical Coder.

About You:
Reporting to the Manager, Health Information Services you will be responsible for the accurate and the timely coding of inpatient health care records according to developing/established coding procedures and standards. You will regularly monitor and evaluate coding statistics to ensure targets and key performance indicators are met.- Recognised Clinical Coding qualification or Degree qualified in Health Information Management/Medical Record Administration-
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Australian Coding Standards- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and disease processes- Extensive knowledge of casemix, DRGs, and ICD-10- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills
