Position Summary

The Community Services Group develops, maintains and analyses national data to support monitoring and

reporting of:

- the health and welfare of key subpopulations, including older Australians, people with disability, and

victims and perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence
- use of services within a range of health and welfare sectors, including community-based services

focused on aged care and disability
- pathways and outcomes for the general population, key subpopulations and health and welfare

service users.

The Ageing and Aged Care Unit (AACU) has a diverse program of work that includes data expansion and

analytical projects for the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse (NACDC, an independent and centralised

repository of aged care data in Australia managed by the AACU) and operational activities of the GEN Aged

Care Data website. AACU also reports on a range of topics relevant to ageing and aged care, including unmet

need for services and access to aged care, impact of community-based aged care on the take-up of

residential aged care over time, pathways through aged care services, the Aged Care Provider Workforce

Survey and the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program (QI Program) that informs aged

care policy and evaluation.

The Aged Care Data Improvement Unit (ACDIU) was established in mid-2021, to take forward new work in

response to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety which

concluded in early 2021. Funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, the Unit’s responsibilities are

to report on targets to reduce the number of young people in residential aged care over the next 2.5 years

to 2026 and to undertake a range of aged care data improvement activities to support the national aged

care data system to provide timely, reliable, and comprehensive information that is responsive to the needs

of various users in the system.

There are 3 APS5 positions across AACU and ACDIU to work on the following projects:
1. AACU APS5 Data Analyst: the position will work as part of the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse

(NACDC) and data request team; assist with the annual update of the NACDC; undertake data

analysis for internal and external clients; review data extracts for linkage projects; identify process

(NACDA) team to support the delivery of the enduring linked data asset, contribute to governance
