Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), our national biocontainment research facility, is a vital part of Australia’s biosecurity infrastructure. Our team works closely with researchers, animal and human health agencies to protect Australia’s multi-billion dollar livestock and aquaculture industries, and the general public, from emerging infectious disease threats.

The Research Technician operates within the Zoonotic Platforms team in the Health and Biosecurity business unit at ACDP. The focus of the team is the development of ex vivo lung models to understand the host response to infection, both viral and bacterial and to develop the capability further in pandemic preparedness and disease resilience. You will contribute to the research and development of ex vivo lung models for infectious disease and will be required to work independently in the PC2 and PC3 microbiologically secure laboratories. The development of ex vivo models and techniques will contribute to the drug development programs at CSIRO

**Your duties will include**:

- Under general direction, contribute to research and technology through the development of original and adapted experimental methods.
- Undertake a wide variety of tasks, including tasks with a high degree of specialisation.
- Show initiative to seek new approaches to meet experimental or technological needs when encountering new problems where methods are not defined.
- Participate in the identification and definition of research and/or technological problems with colleagues.
- Address problems promptly and in a constructive manner.
- Participate in planning projects and accept responsibility for scheduling and completion of major parts of the project, including evaluation of options, experimental design, data collection and analysis.
- Make significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results and may collaborate on drafting presentations to, and/or detailed written reports for, clients and the scientific and technology community.

**Salary**: $68k to AU$86k per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:
1. Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
2. Experience in microbiology and molecular biology related laboratory skills.
3. Experience in technical and experimental tissue culture including culture of primary and/or immortalised cells.
4. Ability to work both independently and co-operatively as a member of a larger project team, and to form and maintain effective and respectful relationships with a range of colleagues and collaborators.
5. Ability to plan and schedule workflow in a timely and technically sound manner.
6. Ability to document results and communicate effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
