**Supervising Conservator**

We are seeking a dedicated Supervising Conservator to join our Collection Care Team. In this vital role, you'll work with a diverse array of items from our vast collection to maintain conservation standards, ensuring their longevity and integrity for future generations.

**What the opportunity is**:

- Employment with Museums of History NSW.
- Conservator Grade 2. Remuneration package includes salary ($96,061 - $113,562), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
- Full-time temporary employment for a period up to 15-months.
- The role will work across Sydney.

**What we do**

MHNSW brings together the museums, historic houses and associated collections previously in the care of Sydney Living Museums with the vast collection of more than 13 million items held by the former NSW State Archives. This includes one of the world’s most complete and important collections documenting colonisation.

**What you’ll do with us**

This role will provide a range of preservation/conservation services to enable the ongoing preservation of the State archives’ collection to ensure the archives remain available to the people of NSW now and in the future.

**What you need to do to apply**

**What you need to tell us - Targeted questions**:

- Describe a situation where you have had to identify the risks and preservation needs for a large collection prior to digitisation. What were some the challenged you faced and how did you address them. (300 words maximum)
- Provide an example of when you have researched the treatment and preservation needs of a large archival or paper-based collection to determine its storage and / or digitisation needs. (300 words maximum)

**Essential requirements of the role**:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in materials conservation with a specialisation in paper conservation
- At least 5 years’ experience in materials conservation, conservation techniques and related scientific processes
- Understanding of and adherence to the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials Code of Ethics and Practice.

**Also note**:

- To be eligible for an ongoing role in the NSW Public Sector you need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. For temporary and casual roles, you need to hold a valid visa giving you permission to work in Australia as required by the role.
- A talent pool may be created for future ongoing and temporary roles and is valid for a period of up to 18 months.
