**To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991.**

**About the Role**:
The primary purpose of this position is to develop and foster effective and strong communication networks between the Wingecarribee Shire Council, the local and regional community services sector and the wider Aboriginal community. You will be responsible, however not limited to:

- Contributing to the development of strategic policies to address the needs of the Wingecarribee Shire’s Aboriginal Community.
- Supporting and advocating on community issues relating to the Wingecarribee Cluster Group priority actions.
- Working with stakeholders in the development and implementation of meaningful and responsive community development activities.
- Facilitating the engagement between Council and Aboriginal stakeholders relating to heritage and environmental matters.
- Support the Aboriginal Community and Cultural Centre management committee and fostering referral pathways to link community members to services in the Wingecarribee.
- Facilitating and coordinating Aboriginal Community activities and events.
- Provide information and education to Community to raise cultural awareness.

**Selection Criteria**
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences or related disciplines and relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal Community sector and service system.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and running community events.
- Project and Event management skills and experience including managing grants, contracts and budgets.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating and supporting committees and working groups.
- Proven skills in translating community needs to organisations and converting those ideas into strategies and plans.
- A highly motivated person with exceptional interpersonal communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Current Class C driver’s licence
- Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
