Taking action to build a fairer community
Sheriff's officers enforce warrants and orders issued by the courts. It is a vital job that makes Victoria safer and fairer by holding individuals accountable for unpaid fines.

**On any day, we could be working with**:

- someone with years of unpaid traffic fines to get them resolved
- a company to collect money they owe resulting from a VCAT hearing
- a homeowner who has ignored requests from their bank to bring their mortgage payments up to date.
- someone who has failed to appear in court as required.

Why we love the job
- We help make Victoria a fairer and safer place to live.
- We can access learning and development coursesthat help our careers progress.
- Our typical roster runs Monday through Friday, with no regular weekend work (overtime is sometimes available). There are also shifts starting in the morning and the afternoon.
- The roster is based around a four-day week. We use our extended weekends to relax, catch up with friends and family, or take off on trips around Victoria.

What makes a great sheriff's officer?
We work closely with people to achieve a required outcome in difficult circumstances. There are not many jobs quite like ours, so rather than demanding specific previous experience, recruiters look for people who have developed the skills that we need on the job.
Sheriff's officers have a genuine interest in people and are expert at gaining others' cooperation. This means we have outstanding communication skills and can connect with people through empathy and mutual respect.
These skills can be developed both in professional work and unpaid experiences - like travel, volunteering, studying and parenting.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

**Acceptable evidence includes**:
1. COVID-19 digital certificate (available via your myGov account)
2. Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
