Canberra, Australia Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) Full time

Location: Canberra
- Job Type: Ongoing full-time
- Salary: $86,452 - $97,832

The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is Australia’s national criminal intelligence agency. We advise senior decision makers on serious and organised crime impacting Australia. We are a full member of the National Intelligence Community, an Attorney General’s Portfolio agency, and a member of the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Group.

The ACIC is at the forefront of tackling serious and organised crime targeting Australia, both within our borders and offshore. Our staff operate against a pervasive, transnational and globalised criminal threat, and work hard to realise an Australia hostile to criminal exploitation. As a small agency that makes a real impact on serious and organised crime, we need talented and dedicated people who are intelligent, highly capable and seeking to make a difference to the lives of all Australians.

The ACIC also plays a critical role in facilitating the National Police Checking Service (NPCS), by providing an ICT system that allows Accredited Bodies and Police to provide Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks to the Australian community.

**About the branch**
The ACIC partners with Australian police agencies to provide the National Police Checking Service (NPCS or the Service). The NPCS helps to protect the safety of the community by minimising the risk of appointing someone unsuitable to a position of trust. The service is delivered to Australian police agencies and organisations who are accredited with the ACIC to submit Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks (police checks).

The NPCS accredits organisations known as accredited bodies to perform functions on behalf of the ACIC for individuals accessing the Service.

The NPCS Branch undertakes a range of quality assurance activities to assist with accuracy and to ensure the smooth operation and continuity of the service. We also perform matching work for police checks, contract, onboard and train newly accredited organisations and provide an ongoing customer and contract management service for our accredited organisations.

**About the role**
The National Police Checking Service (NPCS or the Service) is seeking motivated individuals to form part of a new team, established to manage secondary clearance activities.

The Advisor, NPCS will supervise a medium-large scale team which is responsible for the processing of criminal history checks by resolving identity for persons of interest who have matched against national police records within National Policing Information (NPI) Systems.

The Advisor, NPCS will assist with setting up the new capability for the NPCS to establish a Secondary Clearance team. This will include assisting with recruitment initiatives, developing standard operating procedures, delivering training packages for new staff, and managing rosters for adequate work coverage.
- Provides leadership and support to staff including building team capability, managing staff performance, training of staff, maintaining team cohesion and assuring the quality of outputs
- Reviews, delegates and sets workload priorities for the team, in alignment with the broader NPCS program of work including ensuring adequate work coverage through the management of a team roster.
- Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in their work, with good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines and KPIs set by senior management.
- Uses strategic and analytical assessment to analyse all available information to make accurate decisions
- Has a demonstrated ability to work with sensitive data, including police and personal information whilst maintaining privacy
- Uses well-developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, reports and briefs
- Manages complex enquiries, cases and issues and escalates issues as needed
- Develops and delivers high quality documentation which may include business process models, system requirements and system design documentation for new and existing systems
- Provides end to end technical and customer support for the technical on boarding of Accredited Bodies
