**About the Role**
As a Research Fellow in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne, you will engage in pioneering research on magnetic refrigeration techniques, systems and magnetocaloric materials to advance hydrogen liquefaction technology for boil-off gas handling and reuse. Supported by an Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) grant, this role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading cryogenic and process-related companies and contribute to the commercialization of cutting-edge hydrogen infrastructure. You will work closely with industry partners and a multi-disciplinary university's research team led by Dr. Shanaka Kristombu Baduge, to develop solutions for managing hydrogen boil-off in mega-scale liquid hydrogen tanks, while also contributing to the department's national and international research outreach efforts.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Independently carry out research and work towards the research vision; Working with the Chief Investigators (CIs), develop the research plan based on the goals of the research programme
- Design, develop and validate using modular magnetic refrigeration systems and magnetocaloric materials to handle liquid hydrogen boil-off gas
- Assist in the day-to-day supervision and management of projects led by graduate students and research assistants
- Contribute to curriculum design, teaching, training, scientific mentoring, and supervision of students as required

**Who We Are Looking For**
You will have a strong or emerging track record of publications, with proven expertise in preparing manuscripts for academic journals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with industry partners to meet project deadlines, are essential for this role.

You will also have:

- A doctorate (PhD) in Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering or Physics or closely related Discipline
- PhD directly related to magnetic refrigeration and magnetocaloric materials or prior experience in magnetic refrigeration/liquefaction processes and/or magnetocaloric material development
- Or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering or Physics or a closely related discipline with more than 2 years of experience directly related to magnetic refrigeration, cryostats design and magnetocaloric materials
- A strong track record or track record towards publications and demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts for publication
