Reporting to the State Operations Manager, the HSSE Lead - QLD Operations is responsible for the delivery of HSSE support to our Supply Chain facilities across Queensland. These facilities include Weipa, Cairns JUHI, Cairns Terminal, HMAS Cairns, Townsville, Mt Isa, Mackay, Gladstone, Pinkenba and Brisbane airport.
The HSSE Lead works closely with the site Operations Managers and their teams providing visible safety leadership and advice, and coaching in the development of a learning based safety culture.
Additionally, the HSSE Lead monitors regulatory and HSSE management system compliance, assists in the coordination of assurance activities and the delivery of safety initiatives that target ongoing improvement in our HSSE performance.
In this role you will
- Support site staff in in understanding and implementing VEA’s HSSE Management System requirements within our QLD operations.
- Develop annual safety plans for QLD sites and drive delivery of selected key initiatives. Monitor completion of local safety plan actions and assist site staff as required.
- Support site staff to maintain compliance with site “licence to operate” obligations including the Pinkenba MHF licence.
- Ensure personal and process safety risks are understood across operations, and that ways of working are effectively managing risk
- Facilitate safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations and bowtie reviews to determine effectiveness of risk controls.
- Assist sites in delivery of safe capital project works through development and implementation of construction safety management plans
- Work with contract owners to ensure contractor safety management processes are consistently implemented at all work sites
- Support competence development and effective implementation of key HSSE MS elements such as MoC, PTW, LOTO, Emergency Response
- Provide support, advice and challenge to site incident investigations and subsequent recommendations and/or actions.
- Develop, supports and mentor our people through engagement with local teams, championing Goal Zero and a no blame culture based on operational learning.
- Work closely with the State Operations Manager to implement programs to improve HSSE outcomes including health and wellbeing, personal safety, process safety, security (including cyber-security) and environment.
- Support sites in identifying opportunities to reduce complexity whilst achieving compliance with applicable WHS, dangerous goods and MHF legislation.
**Qualifications**:
To be successful in this role you will have the following;
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, WHS or related discipline and equivalent industry experience.
- Understanding of the relevant regulatory environment (familiarity with WHS and MHF legislation desirable).
- Experience working within engineering and/or operational environments
- Well developed risk management and incident investigation skills
- Good communication, influencing, interpersonal & stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work across multiple sites and disciplines
- Drivers Licence
- Lead Auditor qualification preferred
