Location

HJA has office hubs in both Sydney and Melbourne that enable collaborative working and are available for staff use. Our staff outside of these two metropolitan locations work remotely. All HJA staff may be required to undertake travel, particularly as it relates to team time as part of their role.

The HJA team come together in person (usually in Sydney or Melbourne) from time to time for events, and to facilitate team learning and collaboration opportunities (3-4 times per year). About this position

This is exciting role at Health Justice Australia, as part of a team exploring the value, implementation and impact of partnerships that bring legal help in services that support people’s health and wellbeing. Based in the research team, the position will collaborate internally with HJA’s practice and policy teams, and externally with research and service delivery organisations.

The position will work across research projects, including a major collaborative research study into the impact of health justice partnership on outcomes for clients and partner services. Activities will include designing and undertaking studies, coordinating stakeholders and processes, reviewing and synthesising existing evidence on health justice partnership, and writing up insights from our research. There will be scope to undertake projects and publish within the study and the role more broadly.

This position is ideal for someone with research expertise in areas such as legal assistance/access to justice, public health, service innovation and social impact, and/or social determinants of health. You will have experience in and enthusiasm for coordinating cross disciplinary research projects. You will have genuine interest in learning how integrated legal, health and other services may improve the health and wellbeing of people and communities and build service and practitioner capability. You will be excited by the opportunity to work across disciplines to explore these issues.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinating, designing, implementing, analysing and reporting research, for example our multi-site evaluation
- Other research and evaluation tasks and projects
- Clearly communicating research/evaluation results, to support their translation into policy and practice.

Particular duties will include:

- Leading the coordination and administration of research studies
- Maintaining communication and liaison with HJPs and research partners and communicating the progress of research to stakeholders
- Reviewing and summarising existing evidence on the value and impact of health justice partnership
- Undertaking and supporting the implementation of research, including data collection
- Contributing to data analysis and publication in peer reviewed publications
- Communicating findings to different audiences
- Other duties as required.

Essential Criteria
- A bachelor degree with honours or higher in public health, social science, law or a related discipline
- Demonstrated skills and experience in co-designed and mixed methods research projects including design, implementation/administration, analysis and communication of results
- Experience as an investigator/researcher in a multi-partner research project, ideally working with service providers and/or service users.
- Experience using research software such as survey software, referencing programs, qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis software.
- Excellent project management skills
- Good organisational skills, including capacity to manage changing priorities, deliver work to agreed deadlines and work effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated experience communicating research findings to a non-academic audience
- Commitment to the values of social justice, and a genuine interest in and awareness of the challenges of improving outcomes for people vulnerable to complex needs.

Desirable Criteria
- Skills and experience in survey design or research using administrative data/data systems.
- Experience leading or co-ordinating multi-partner research projects.
- Masters or PhD in public health, social science, law or a related discipline
