Reference: VG/MC0506B

**About us**

The Children's Court of Victoria (ChCV) has jurisdiction under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 to hear cases involving children and young people up to the age of 18 years, and in some cases up to 19 years. It has a Family Division and a Criminal Division and it sits at locations throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

In July 2016 the Children's Court at Broadmeadows commenced a ground-breaking pilot program called Marram-Ngala Ganbu (We are One in Woiwurrung language). The Marram-Ngala Ganbu Koori Family Hearing Day aims to improve outcomes for Koori children involved in child protection proceedings, by providing a culturally appropriate process to assist in decision making. Marram-Ngala Ganbu also aims to improve adherence to the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle set out in the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.

The establishment of a Koori Hearing Day list in the Family Division of the ChCV was a recommendation made by the Protecting Victoria's Vulnerable Children Inquiry in 2012. This recommendation followed the identification of the need for such an initiative by the Aboriginal Justice Forum (AJF23) in March 2009, given the high rates of removal of Aboriginal children from their families.

**About the role**

The Manager, Koori Services and Programs is responsible for the delivery of all Koori initiatives in the ChCV. The role provides strategic and operational leadership for Koori services and programs across the Children's Court and has responsibility for leading the continued development of the Children's Court capability to deliver services that improve Aboriginal justice outcomes, support families and make communities safer.

The Manager, Koori Services and Programs will play a critical role in leading the strategic planning required to grow and enhance the Court's Koori programs and services, including the expansion of Marram-Ngala Ganbu.

The role is expected to develop and maintain strong connections, and promote effective communication, between the Court and members of the Aboriginal community and peak representative bodies, including the Aboriginal Justice Forum, Aboriginal Caucus, Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations, and key Aboriginal organisations.

**About you**

Strong experience managing Koori staff is essential for this role as the Manager, Koori Services and Programs heads up a dynamic team of Koori staff who work tirelessly to achieve better outcomes for Koori children and families.

**How to apply**
- resume
- a short cover letter
