**The Role**

This role requires high level analytical and critical thinking skills with an ability to engage with policy owners and other relevant stakeholders, internal and external to Defence. The role also works across the Office of the Defence Seaworthiness Regulator to integrate and articulate environmental requirements and practices through Defence maritime.

Responsibilities include:

- Maintaining an understanding of international and domestic environmental regulatory frameworks and contextualise how these frameworks impact on the Defence maritime community.
- Monitoring and analysing Defence maritime environmental incidents and propose recommendations to better manage risks across Defence and achieve operational objectives.
- Scanning, analysing and critically reviewing Defence policies to propose regulatory options to the ODSwR, and provide constructive advice to our Defence maritime stakeholders.
- Regularly liaise with internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve the objectives of ODSwR and Defence. Through analysing environmental incidents, environmental legislation and environmental management best practice identify potential gaps in the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS) compliance regulations and propose improvements and implement changes.
- Respond and provide advice to enquiries from the regulated community.
- Produce guidance and educational materials to assist Defence maritime better understand the environmental risks of their operations and adhere to their regulatory requirements.

**About our Team**
The Office of the Defence Seaworthiness Regulator (ODSwR) is an independent Defence Regulator.

The ODSwR is tasked with managing the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS), a Defence-wide maritime risk management system. It does this through:

- Scanning the maritime environment and advocating on behalf of Defence
- Providing a regulatory framework to manage maritime risks
- Assuring maritime risks are proactively considered and controlled
- Monitoring trends across the Defence Enterprise
- Providing support to the Defence maritime community through education and advice.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills demonstrating the ability to logically and critically present arguments regarding environmental impacts and regulatory implications in the context of a complex enterprise.
- Highly developed technical investigation and analytical skills to define and identify relevant stakeholders and sources of information within a complex enterprise.
- Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders, including executive leadership representatives and ADF members across a range of ranks/commands in order to achieve effective strategic outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a small team and to support their work unit in the pursuit of the section’s goals, whilst accommodating different working styles.
