**Band 6 - $90,571- $99,983 pro rata (+ 11% superannuation)**

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Hobsons Bay City Council Community Child Health department as a Family Support Officer, Enhanced Maternal and Child Health

**What you’ll be working on**

Working in partnership with families with young children 0 to school age who are experiencing vulnerability or periods of heightened need who have been referred to EMCH to:

- build parenting skills, knowledge, and confidence
- promote the health, safety, well-being and development of children and good family functioning
- Provide advocacy and support, where appropriate for families, when dealing with other services, agencies, and government departments
- provide referral and linkage to other community services such as supported playgroups, 3/4-year-old kinder, Family Services through The Orange Door (TOD)
- work from a strength-based perspective and in partnership with families to -meet identified needs and concerns.
- work with a child-centred approach
- offer outreach visits in the home or community setting.
- work collaboratively with EMCH team members involved with families, where there are diverse needs, ensuring each team member is aware of the others’ contribution and continuing involvement with the family
- provide secondary consultation to other services involved with family including MCH nurses, EMCH nurses, Social Worker, Supported Playgroup Facilitators, Pre-school Field Officers, and other services involved with family such as Child Protection, and Family Services,
- report to and work with Child Protection when there are concerns for safety of the child/children
- facilitation of Parenting Programs such as Circle of Security, Tuning Into Kids or similar.

**What you need to succeed**:

- relevant tertiary qualifications in Early Childhood Education, Welfare, Family Therapy, Counselling, or related discipline
- proven ability in outreaching, engaging, and working collaboratively with diverse families experiencing vulnerability due to -difficulties in transition to early parenting
- adapting to the changing needs and behaviors of their children as they go through developmental stages.
- mental health issues, family violence, alcohol, or substance abuse
- external events that impact on their ability to meet the needs of their infants or children such as poor social connections in the community, financial issues, residential instability or recently arrived.
- experience supporting victim/survivors of family violence or Experience completing risk assessments and safety planning with victim/survivors of family violence
